for every special child in sri lanka

10 Toilets for Special Children in Sri Lanka with Davud Akhunzadha.
While many of us enjoy the comforts of modern life, some children in Sri Lanka face a daily struggle to meet basic needs, like access to proper toilets.
For children with special conditions such as cerebral palsy, microcephaly, and Rett syndrome, the need for disabled-friendly toilets is even more urgent. These children cannot squat and often rely entirely on their mothers for assistance. During our visits, we found toilets that were not only inaccessible but also in poor, unhygienic condition, raising serious concerns—especially for girls.
In response, the Suriya Foundation, in partnership with Davud Akhunzadha, aims to build 10 disabled-friendly toilets for 10 children in greatest need, bringing dignity and comfort to their lives.
September Update.
Thanks to your valuable support, we’re pleased to report that 10 toilets have been successfully completed, and we are now preparing for the next phase of our project.
The approximate budget was 15,600 AUD (3,078,570 LKR). The final estimate, with the detailed requirements for the 10 toilets, was 22,816 AUD (4,572,292 LKR). We’ve raised 31,921 AUD (6,309,067 LKR) through GoFundMe and direct donations. Every contribution has helped us reach this goal.
We are now preparing to begin phase 2 of the project, which will involve building 12 more toilets for children with disabilities from underprivileged backgrounds. To make this possible, we need to raise an additional 15,648 AUD (3,089,190 LKR). If you’re able to contribute to the next phase, we’d love to have your continued support. Construction of a Disabled-Friendly Toilet for Hirunika.
Hirunika is an incredible 13-year-old with a bright personality. She faces challenges due to Spina Bifida, which makes walking difficult. Until recently, her parents had to help with tasks like using the toilet. Thanks to your generosity, the Suriya Foundation was able to build a special toilet for her, giving her the independence she needed.
Hirunika excels in school, especially in music and IT, and recently shined in her Fifth Scholarship Exam. She’s proof that with determination, anyone can overcome challenges.
Your kindness helped us create something special for Hirunika, giving her both independence and empowerment. Together, we’re building brighter futures for children like her in Sri Lanka.
