for every special child
Skills & Education
Suriya Foundation provides comprehensive special needs education programs and funding to support children with Down's syndrome, Autism, Cerebral Palsy, and other medical complications. Our team of teachers and volunteers work closely with each child to provide individualized support and help them achieve their full potential. We offer activities focused on developing sensory and cognitive skills, creative arts, sports, and vocational training, as well as basic life skills such as brushing teeth or drinking water, where progress is checked every week. We are dedicated to providing a safe and supportive learning environment where every child is valued and has the opportunity to reach their full potential.
Empowering Parents
We acknowledges the important role of parents in fostering positive attitudes towards special needs education for their disabled child. Unfortunately, many parents are not aware of the resources available to them from the government that could be game-changers for their child's education. To address this, our foundation provides parents counseling programs that increase their awareness of available resources. We offer customized support to parents to help them understand and access the resources that would be most beneficial to their child. Our goal is to empower parents to become active and informed participants in their child's education journey.
Donating Necessities
Having understood the financial challenges faced by families of disabled children, who often struggle to afford basic necessities, Suriya Foundation is dedicated to donating essentials such as medicine, wheelchairs, uniforms, and hygiene materials to families in need. Our first project involved providing support to five families with disabled children by donating necessities for one year. We believe that every child deserves access to essential resources to thrive, and our foundation is committed to helping families overcome the financial barriers that may prevent their children from receiving the care and support they need. Our ongoing efforts aim to make a positive difference in the lives of children and their families.
Health & Wellbeing
We are committed to promoting the health and well-being of 31 children with Down's syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Autism, microcephaly, deaf children, and other disabilities and developmental delays. Going beyond special education in Sri Lanka, our programs cater to the specific needs of each child, whether it be through physiotherapy, pediatric clinics, breathing exercises, or sound exercises. We provide a safe and nurturing environment where children can receive the care and attention they need to thrive. We currently care for 8 children in their homes, and the rest are cared for at our children's resource center. We rely on the support of donors to continue providing these essential services to the children and families who depend on us. Join us in our mission to improve the lives of special children by donating today.
Extracurricular Activities
A nurturing and supportive environment for children with special needs is one of our causes. In addition to their regular education, the foundation understands the importance of extracurricular activities in a child's development. That's why they hold a variety of special events throughout the year, including art exhibitions, new year festivals, educational trips, and religious festivals to keep the children happy and engaged. Apart from these events, the children also get to participate in a range of activities, such as music, sports, playing, team work activities, and arts & crafts. These activities are designed to develop their social, emotional, and physical skills while fostering a sense of teamwork and community. The foundation believes that by offering these extracurricular activities, they can help children with special needs to thrive and reach their full potential. It's just one more way that this organization is making a positive difference in the lives of these children and their families.
Community Based Rehabilitation
Community-based rehabilitation (CBR) is a method of rehabilitation that focuses on providing assistance and services to individuals with disabilities in their local communities. It is a cooperative and interactive process that involves working closely with people with disabilities, their families, and their communities to recognize and address their requirements. CBR aims to promote complete social inclusion and engagement of people with disabilities in various aspects of community life, including education, work, and social activities. The community-based rehabilitation programs for 8 special children in our school, provide a range of benefits to support their special needs education, physical and functional abilities, including physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy."
