A Future for Senura & Family
Meet Senura, a cheerful child with Down syndrome. He lives with his loving mother and devoted sister, as their father has passed away. Senura’s mother works tirelessly at various odd jobs to support their family, while his sister takes on the role of caregiver, ensuring Senura’s needs are met.
Due to Senura’s condition, his sister is unable to pursue employment outside the home, as she must be available to care for him. Recognizing the family’s challenges, the Suriya Foundation stepped in to offer support. They provided Senura’s sister with a job at the foundation, along with an allowance and monthly transport cards for , so she could continue to care for Senura and also teach other children.
The Suriya Foundation has been a lifeline for the family, offering financial assistance during times of struggle, especially when Senura’s mother fell ill. With the Foundation’s support, Senura’s family finds hope and stability in their journey, knowing they have a caring community by their side.
Story of Tharuka
Tharuka Maduwanthi, born in 1998, faced Spina Bifida’s challenges and didn’t attend school. Her family taught her to read and write, nurturing her love for arts and crafts. She rarely left home for 23 years. Then, the Suriya Foundation discovered her talent. Tharuka excelled at sewing and crafting, and we saw an opportunity to help. We asked her to teach these skills to older kids in local schools, paying her a stipend as a thank-you. Tharuka eagerly awaited her teaching days each week, finding joy in sharing her knowledge.
Her journey with us ended when she passed away. Yet, we were grateful to make a positive impact during her life. We celebrated her spirit, resilience, and generosity. In her memory, we continue our mission, helping those in need. Tharuka’s brief but meaningful journey with us shows the power of kindness.
